Ashley joined Bristol City FC at the age of 7 in 1997 and at age 16 he was offered a two-year apprenticeship. Following which he signed a one-year professional contract. The next season he joined Oxford city which he thoroughly enjoyed before moving back closer to home to sign for Clevedon.

In the summer of 2012 he was signed by Craig Laird and John Haile (now Director of Football at Weston-super-Mare AFC), He then had two successful seasons at the Seagulls receiving players’ player in the second season.

He joined local rivals Bath City and spent two seasons with the Romans. He returned to the Seagulls in July 2016.
