ACADEMY APPOINTMENTS

Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark McKeever as our new Football Development Officer.

This is the first stage of the exciting restructure of the Academy set-up at Weston-super-Mare AFC.

For those that aren’t aware, Mark Mckeever is an ex-professional footballer, who has played in the Premiership for Sheffield Wednesday and has also appeared for Bristol Rovers. He is an ex-Seagulls player and also has extensive experience in running the Weston Football Academy with Weston College. Mark is a UEFA B Licensed coach with many years experience in coaching at this level both for the 1st team and Academy teams. Mark will bring a much-needed link to the 1st team and will also strengthen our work with Weston College for our post 16 Academy.

Syd Camper is also being appointed as the deputy Football Development officer and will be working closely with Mark and Matt Bazell to develop his skills. Syd is a product of the Weston-super-Mare AFC Academy and is already showing signs of being a great coach for the future.

Weston-super-Mare AFC has teams in age-groups from 6 – 23s and this is the first step in making this an outstanding Academy for the South West. We see this as an exciting opportunity for everyone involved as we are striving to deliver the best opportunities for young footballing talent outside of the professional clubs for anyone in the South West of England.

With the new recruitment programme taking place for our Academy, with great efforts from Matt Bazell, the new 3G being completed, the appointment of Mark McKeever as the Football Development Officer, our link with Weston College strengthening, new coaches being added to the Academy, great links with the local professional clubs and our 1st team and management led by Marc McGregor performing well in the National League South, we have a unique product that will enable all of the talented footballers in the South-West to benefit from.

Our aim is to give as many of our Academy players as possible the opportunity to play in our 1st team squad, but that is not the end of the progression as our 1st team is regularly scouted by our local professional clubs, with whom we have great links. As you will have already know, Brad Ash and Dayle Grubb have had the opportunity to move on to professional contracts with Barnsley and Forest Green Rovers respectively.

We would like to wish Mark all the best in his new role, he will be working very closely with Marc McGregor, Weston’s 1st team manager, and Matt Bazell, the Foundation Manager. If you would like to come for a trial then please contact 07414 965005.

We will keep you informed of the further developments we are making with regards to the Academy and Weston College over the next couple of weeks.
