ACADEMY CHIEF SCOUT APPOINTED
Weston-super-Mare AFC Academy are delighted to announce the appointment of Jerry White as our Chief Scout.
Jerry, who previously worked for Cardiff City and Bristol City in a scouting capacity, will work closely alongside our recently appointed Head of Academy Simon Panes as we continue to invest significantly into our Academy set-up.
Jerry has also served as a local grassroots coach for 8 years, the North Somerset U16s manager for 3 years, the Weston-super-Mare AFC Under 18s assistant manager for 3 years and the Clevedon Town Under 18s manager for 3 years before committing to his new role with the seagulls.
When asked about his new role, Jerry said:
As a ‘born and bred’ Westonian I am thrilled and thankful for the opportunity to work for Weston-super-Mare AFC again.
“I temporarily stepped back from football management over the past couple of seasons, but when asked by Simon Panes if I wanted to come on board, my deep passion and drive for the game made the decision easy.
“With my close connections with local grassroots and semi-pro clubs, I will use my scouting experience to pinpoint local talented youth footballers, not only for the Academy, but to support the first team where necessary.
“Weston-super-Mare AFC has the best facilities and pathway to semi-professional football in the area and it is our aim, as a recruitment team, to make this the club all local young footballers want to play for.”
Commenting on the appointment of Jerry, Simon told westonsmareafc.co.uk:
I am delighted that Jerry has agreed to join us and become our Chief Scout.
“There is no doubting his wealth of experience in the game and his appointment just strengthens the Academy staffing team we are building at the club.
I very much look forward to working closely with Jerry and welcome him to the Academy.”
As our Academy continues to progress, we are hosting an assessment day for all players between the under-16s and 18s on Saturday July 10.
The one-day trial will start at 10am and finish at 4pm and will be held at The Optima Stadium and will include practical sessions, matches and academic presentation by our education partners, Weston College.
All players are required to bring their own kit, boots, shin pads as well as their own lunch and fluids to keep hydrated throughout the day.
This is a fantastic opportunity for players to enter a semi-professional environment, in the Southern Premier League, supporting aspirations of becoming a professional footballer.
