CHRIS KNOWLES DEPARTS THE CLUB

Weston-super-Mare AFC can confirm that player/coach Chris Knowles has departed the club to continue his playing career.

Chris took on a coaching role in 2021 after suffering a knee injury during pre-season.

Following an operation and rehab, Chris wishes to continue his playing career and with Scott Bartlett’s blessing, will leave the club to pursue this.

While injured, ‘Knowlesy’ played an important role as a first-team coach. His dedication, organisation and fighting spirit will be missed.

The club will make a coaching appointment in due course.

Chris said:

I would like to thank the gaffer and Lairdy for the past few years.

“Despite the disruption of Covid and my injury I have enjoyed my time at Weston-super-Mare AFC.

“I’ve worked and played with some great people in front of a great fan base.

I wish the club all the best next season and hope they get that promotion back to the national league south.”

Manager Scott Bartlett said:

“I’ve known Knowlesy since he was 18, he’s a great person and was very helpful to me last season both personally and professionally.

“He was a good signing for us, he added some competitiveness and experience when he signed and has a terrific attitude.

“He is now fully fit and wants to continue playing, and so he should. He will do a great job for someone and won’t be short of offers.

“He is welcome to rejoin our coaching staff in the future when the time is right.”

The club would like to thank Chris for his contributions both on and off the pitch over the last two and a half years. We wish him well for the future.
