CLUB TRIGGER POPE OPTION
Weston-super-Mare AFC have extended the contract of powerful defender Jason Pope by triggering the option of a further year.
Manager Scott Bartlett said “Jason’s situation is complicated and needs resolving which is something I am working on.
“He has been a good servant to the club and has the ability to play at a higher level, it’s my understanding that he would like to pursue his ambition of getting back into full time football.
“At this stage though, we have received no formal offers for Jason and until that happens and a satisfactory offer is accepted he will remain a WSM player.
“From a personal point of view I would not stand in his way if an acceptable offer from a full time National League or Football League club came in, in the meantime we are working on an improved offer to remain for longer.
“We have a track record of allowing players to progress but any deal would need to be of substantial benefit to the club to reflect the years of development invested in Jason.
“So as things stand I am continuing to build a team that he will be an integral part of”.
