Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to confirm that Wales C captain and centre-back Emlyn Lewis has agreed terms for the 24/25 season.

The 27-year-old defender has spent the past 10 seasons at Cardiff Met FC, gaining a reputation as one of the best central defenders within the top flight of Welsh football.

During his ten years at Cardiff Met, Emlyn helped them progress into the Cymru Premier in 2016, before reaching the Europa League Qualifiers in 2019. He was also a mainstay during the side’s run to the Nathaniel MG Cup final in 2019, finishing as winners, while also ending as runners-up in 2022.

The defender has also pulled on the Wales C shirt four times, captaining them twice. His games as captain came in 2022, a 4-0 win over England C, before a narrow 1-0 defeat a year later.

Manager Scott Bartlett said:

Emlyn is a tough no-nonsense defender and mature character with good experience.

“He has a fantastic attitude and defends the box very well.

“We are looking forward to working with him”.

After signing for the club, Emlyn said:

“It feels fantastic to have signed.

“There’s a fantastic pitch, a fantastic ground and great people so I’m really looking forward to a new challenge.

“I had good conversations with the gaffer, I met him and he was really positive about the plans, what the challenge is for us this season and what we want to do.

“It’s an up-and-coming club, it’s going to develop hopefully and we’re going to try and achieve some success this season.

“As a player, I’d describe myself as an aggressive, front-foot defender”.

About Emlyn

Emlyn began his career as a youngster at Aberystwyth Town, appearing as an unused substitute five times in the Welsh top flight during the 2012-2023 season while still a 16-year-old.

In the summer of 2014, when beginning at Cardiff Met University as a student, the defender started to feature for Cardiff Met FC in the Welsh second tier, playing a major part in their promotion at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Emlyn’s stock continued to rise over the years at Cardiff Met, helping them reach the Europa League Qualifiers in 2019 while winning the Nathaniel MG Cup in the same year. His Cardiff Met side also reached the Nathaniel MG Cup final in 2022, but finished as runners-up on that occasion. Before departing Cardiff Met in April 2024, he had made over 250 appearances for the side.

Emlyn also has been recognised internationally by Wales C, being capped four times by the side. He made his debut for the first time in 2019 during a 2-2 draw against England C, and has received a call-up in the past three years to compete against the best players in England’s non-league system.
