FA TROPHY SEES WESTON AIMING TO CLIP WELLING UNITED’S WING

This weekend, the Seagulls begin their FA Trophy journey with a tough test away to divisional rivals Welling United in the Third Qualifying Round of the competition.

The Seagulls’ last loss in all competitions came at home to this weekends competition opponents when the teams met at the Woodspring on 14th October 0 – 2.

Welling have drawn their last two games, 3 – 3 at home to Concord Rangers and 2 – 2 away to Hemel Hempstead. The Wings currently sit in the final Playoff spot, albeit on goal difference over Hemel Hempstead, however are just four points ahead of the 13th-placed Seagulls.

When these sides met was last month, Weston’s defeat was at the hands of an in-form Welling side. Eli Phipps and Joe Healy scored in the first half to give the Wings a 0 – 2 win away from home to continue their impressive form at that time.

“The squad will be working hard to extend our good run of form” said Rob Boyd, assistant coach, looking forward to the fixture, “Welling will no doubt offer us a good test as our previous meeting with them showed, we are aiming to avenge that league defeat.”
