Bridgwater United v Weston-super-Mare

Bridgwater United 0 - 4 Weston-super-Mare
12 Jul 2022 - 19:45Fairfax Park

Goals from four different scorers saw Weston get their second pre-season victory with a 4-0 win at Bridgwater United.

It took less than six minutes for the Seagulls to break the deadlock, when a short corner routine between Jordan Bastin and Jay Murray allowed the former to whip a cross into the area. Sam Avery rose above two at the back post to nod a header back across goal, and striker Marlon Jackson was on hand to tap in.

Bridgy keeper Jake Viney got low down to his right as he held a low Jackson effort at the second attempt, before home centre-back Ross Edwards hooked a bouncing Bastin shot off the line following a loose clearance falling the way of the Weston No.11 six yards out.

Just after the half-hour mark, Weston doubled the lead when Jacob Jagger-Cane turned inside the area and managed to find Dayle Grubb stood just inside the box. Shifting onto his right, his curling attempt took a big deflection off an outstretched Bridgwater leg and looped over Viney into the back of the net for 2-0.

The second half mainly saw Weston resort to efforts from long range at goal, substitute Elis Watts curling wide of the target and Jack Holmes firing over from distance. Low crosses into the area from Bailey Kempster, Murray and Watts were all scrambled away by the Bridgwater defence.

Weston were to go 3-0 up when Watts turned midway inside the Bridgwater half and fed the ball for pacy striker Ben Griffith. The forward did well to get goalside of his man and as he drew Viney toward him, he confidently slotted past him for his second goal of pre-season.

The final goal of the evening would come through the left boot of Watts, a flowing Weston move seeing a cross into the area find the trialist who drove home for his second goal in two games.
