A two-goal comeback at the Aspect Arena saw the Seagulls draw with their hosts Concord Rangers.
The first real action of note came when Concord’s Ben Greenhalgh got in down the left, with Luke Purnell steaming off his line to win the ball, Greenhalgh took the ball around him and was brought down by Weston’s No.1. Concord captain Steve Cawley stepped up, and sent Purnell the wrong way for 1-0.
Lewis Knight volleyed over the top of the bar from six yards out, before Concord got another penalty.
This time, Greenhalgh sprinted past Jarrad Welch and right-back Ash Harper. Harper chased his man, diving in as Greenhalgh went to cross. The referee awarded another spot kick, with Cawley again going the same way and placing the ball out of Purnell’s reach.
Khale Da Costa had a shot well saved by Purnell, before Weston’s shot stopper was again called into action when Cawley brought a long ball down and tried to dink his shot over the keeper.
Following the interval, Weston pulled a goal back when striker Gethyn Hill raced onto a flick from Jacob Cane. Controlling the ball and dispatching his shot underneath the Concord keeper Louis Wells he chalked one up for the Seagulls.
A turning point in the game came when Concord’s Steve Cawley was sent off. Cawley lunged in on Harvey Smith as the centre-back intercepted a pass, at a height which could have broken the loanee’s leg. The referee was quick to flash the second yellow at Cawley, and their captain was dismissed from the field of play.
Amos Nasha drove the ball wide when driving forward, before substitute Irnti Rapai volleyed over the bar from a cross.
Wells kept a Tristan Plummer effort out with his left boot, before Femi Akinwande saw a shot tipped wide by Purnell.
The decisive moment came when a succession of Weston corners was kept alive by Cane at the far post. He tapped the ball down for Rapai, with the second half sub drilling the ball in at the keeper’s near post to grab a point for Weston.
