Dartford v Weston-super-Mare

Dartford 3 - 1 Weston-super-Mare
07 Apr 2018 - 15:00

With the squad down to its bare bones, Weston were unable to take anything away from their clash away at Dartford.

An Andy Pugh effort was deflected behind for a corner inside the first minute, with the Darts unable to make anything from the resultant corner.

Dartford took the lead in the seventh minute when the Darts countered from a Weston counter, an attack involving Naby, Jake Lee and Kris Scott. Striker Alfie Pavey was put through on goal, and he was able to dispatch the ball into the corner to break the deadlock.

Duane Ofori-Acheampong cut onto his right foot but his low effort towards Luke Purnell’s near post was well held by the shot-stopper.

Ash Harper blocked a long range Mark Onyemah drive, before Dartford went on to secure their second. A corner, from the right, was too easy for the Seagulls defence, with skipper Jacob Cane losing his man. Darts captain Elliot Bradbrook got across his opposite skipper, and Bradbrook dispatched a volley into the corner.

Purnell pulled off one of the saves of the season when a Dartford attacker rose to meet a cross. He powered a header at goal, but acrobatically, Purnell tipped the ball aside to the disbelief of the Darts player who had initially turned to celebrate.

The second half was an dull affair, with Jake Lee and Tom Bonner’s personal battle being the highlight of it, where following an altercation, Bonner could be perceived to have been extremely lucky to have remained on the pitch.

Ash Kington’s audacious lob from halfway dipped narrowly over the bar, before the home side sealed the match with a third. Pavey was slipped through on goal, and with Jason Pope chasing him down, Pavey skipped around Purnell and slotted in for his 2nd of the game.

Half-time substitute Mo Baghdadi saw his 20-yard curler on his left foot tipped over by Berti Schotterl, and on his league debut, Tom Llewellyn had a drive punched clear.

Into second half added time, Lewy struck for his first league goal, collecting the ball from Naby Diallo, and drilling into the far corner from outside the box.

FT: Dartford 3 – 1 Weston (Pavey 7,73, Bradbrook 29-Llewellyn 90+2)

Weston XI: Purnell, Harper (Baghdadi HT), Greenslade, Cane (C), Pope, Parsons, Scott, Diallo, Lee, Welch (Laird 62), Kington (Llewellyn 79). Unused sub: Hill

MOTM: Tom Llewellyn – Kept the ball well during his league debut and despite his small stature, he did well against a physical outfit, with his appearance enhanced with Weston’s consolation goal.
