Faced with their longest trip of the season, Weston returned to North Somerset with all three points after a 1-0 win away at Dover Athletic.
Robbie Willmott had an early shot from 25 yards blocked, before Dontai Stewart fired wide for the hosts from a similar distance as he worked a yard of space. The Seagulls were patient when looking to find space in behind down the flanks, however some last-ditch Dover defending prevented Weston from breaking the deadlock.
The game’s only goal was to arrive just after the break though when a Lloyd Humphries diagonal found Jordan Bastin on the left flank. Finding Alex Fletcher just inside the box, his disguised reverse pass in between two opposition players released Bastin into space and getting his head up, his cut-back was hammered in by skipper Dayle Grubb on his left foot.
Dover looked to hit back when John Oyenuga got down the right and saw his cross deflect out to Josh Anifowose 18 yards out, who couldn’t get his head over the ball and volleyed over the target.
In the second half, a James Morton shot from 25 yards was held by Billy Terrell following a short corner routine by the Seagulls, before a Zidan Sutherland shot from 20 yards was held by Harry Lee in between the Weston sticks. A drive by Bailey Akehurst then looked destined for the net from 25 yards, but a timely intervention by a Weston leg got the danger momentarily away for a corner.
Reuben Reid had a low shot kept out by Terrell from 18 yards after working a yard of space from a Humphries pass over the top, and as the game wore on, Weston threw bodies on the line to clear away any Dover pressure to claim a second consecutive win on the road.
