Farnborough v Weston-super-Mare AFC

Farnborough 0 - 1 Weston-super-Mare AFC
30 Sep 2023 - 15:00BR Saunders Transport Community Stadium

A first half Reuben Reid strike was enough to see the Seagulls through to the 4th Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Farnborough started slightly brighter and broke away in the first minute of the tie winning themselves a corner that came to nothing.

As the game progressed Weston grew into the game and started to keep possession with some good football.

This was rewarded in the 10th minute when ‘keeper Turner threw the ball out loosely for James Dodd to pick up just inside the Farnborough half.

Dodd broke away and found himself in the box but unselfishly squared it to Reid who curled home with his left foot for his first goal of the season.

Weston continued to settle but we’re caught out by a Folivi breakaway who was subsequently brought down by Jordan Bastin.

Taylor Maloney took the spot kick and saw his effort cannon off the post and straight back to him to roll in. Unfortunately for Maloney no one else had touched the ball so he saw his effort ruled out.

Chances became few and far between towards the end of the first half as both teams looked to push but got caught in a midfield battle.

Half Time: Farnborough 0-1 Weston-super-Mare

The second half continued as the first had ended with both sides looking for the next goal. Farnborough had a couple of early chances but Harry Lee was equal to them.

It then looked like Weston would be more likely to get the next goal as both Reid and Cane had multiple efforts either saved or go narrowly past the frame of the goal.

As Weston looked to close the game out the Farnborough onslaught began. Long throw followed long throw but Sam Avery seemed to win each and every header to avert any danger.

After 6 minutes of added time had elapsed the final whistle was blown and the Seagulls could celebrate their progression to the next round of the FA Cup.
