Despite plenty of forays forward into the Gloucester half, the Tigers defence remained firm to keep Weston out and held the Seagulls to their first 0 – 0 draw in 105 games.
Jacob Cane should have scored early on, but got his header all wrong as he accidentally nodded a George Nurse cross away from the Gloucester goal at the back post. Joe Parker went close when his angled free-kick bounced awkwardly in front of Luke Purnell, but Weston’s shot stopper shovelled the ball behind for a corner as he got his body behind the ball.
Nurse went close after George Dowling played a corner to him outside the area but the left-back’s shot was just wide, before Marlon Jackson had the chance of the game. Nurse’s ball down the line for Jennison Myrie-Williams released the winger, and his low cross was sidefooted over by Jackson from six yards, the frontman punching the ground in frustration afterwards.
Gloucester’s Issac Pearce cut onto his left foot from the right, but his low effort was held by Purnell.
After the interval, Spencer Hamilton scuffed a clearance from Nurse’s cross, and the loose ball rolled out to Cane on the edge of the box, however he scuffed his left-footed shot and Jojo Wollacott held. Parker latched onto a quick Gloucester free-kick, cutting inside past Matt Bower but his driven shot was straight at Purnell.
Cane again could have scored when Nurse’s cross was headed out to the skipper. Taking the ball under control, his driven shot from outside the area was deflected wide for a corner. Gloucester had their best chance of the game when Odin Bailey twisted and turned in the Weston box, but his low effort came back off the post and the Seagulls defence eventually cleared.
The last chance of the game came from Nurse, whose angled shot from a free-kick, which may have been a cross, forced Wollacott into acrobatically tipping the ball over the crossbar for a corner.
