Hemel Hempstead Town v Weston-super-Mare AFC

Hemel Hempstead Town 1 - 2 Weston-super-Mare AFC
17 Feb 2024 - 15:00The Focus Community Arena

In a controlled performance on the road at Hemel Hempstead Town, a late Jacob Jagger Cane winner saw Weston come away with a 2-1 win.

Marlon Jackson had the game’s first opening when he was played in one-on-one by Rex Mannings, but his placed effort towards the bottom corner was narrowly wide of the target. Dayle Grubb then curled over from 25 yards, before Hemel keeper Craig King was worked for the first time to hold a low Robbie Willmott long-range effort.

Jagger Cane saw a cross-shot narrowly evade some of the men in the middle, before the midfielder had a low shot from 18 yards go straight down the throat of King. Mannings then curled past the far post from the edge of the area when breaking upfield from a Tudors attack.

In the second period, James Dodd fired ove the bar from 25 yards before King pushed away a Grubb half-volley at his near post following a well-worked move down the left.

The Seagulls were to take the lead just after the hour mark when Jagger Cane was fouled 25 yards from goal, presenting Grubb with a dead-ball situation in a favourable position. Stepping up to the opportunity, he curled the ball over the wall and past the dive of King to break the deadlock.

Grubb then had another opportunity when being played in behind down the left, but his left-footed effort was held comfortably by King.

The Tudors were to equalise ten minutes before the end when Tre Mitford got in behind the defence and squared the ball across looking for a Hemel man, with the unfortunate Willmott sticking a foot out and turning the ball into his own net to draw things level.

The visitors were to keep plugging away though and grab the winner when an initial Jagger Cane shot was deflected up into the air. Bringing the ball back down a yard inside the area, he managed to turn and bend a shot inside the far post to spark celebrations behind the goal and on the sidelines.
