Hemel Hempstead v WSM

Hemel Hempstead Town 0 - 5 Weston super Mare
29 Apr 2017 - 15:00Vauxhall Road

An away trip to Vauxhall Road to round up the league season saw Weston dominate against a Hemel Hempstead side who struggled to create chances in a 0 – 5 win for the visitors.

From start to finish, Weston consistently looked like the side who ‘wanted’ the game more, however it wasn’t always easy, when Hemel’s striker was played through on goal, but an ever-alert Luke Purnell was out to disposes the striker as he pulled the trigger.

Jake Lee then found himself through on goal after some neat hold-up play by Jake Reid shooting early, only for Jamie Butler to palm it aside for a corner.

Just before the half-time break, Weston took the lead when Brad Ash received the ball in the final third, with his subsequent deep cross to the back post then brought down by the chest of Danny Greenslade, who slammed home into the net for 0 – 1 Weston.

Weston came out from the break with a purpose to grab more goals, and were constantly looking dangerous with multiple crosses from Danny Greenslade and Jason Pope just inches away from connecting with Ash, Reid and Lee.

Weston got their second from a cleared corner, with captain Ash Kington taking one touch to steady himself before drilling into the net to make it 0 – 2.

Weston were able to put themselves three to the good when Brad Ash slotted in around the keeper. The Seagulls were then awarded a penalty when Brad Ash was pulled back by his shirt by a Hemel defender, despite chants from the stands for Chris Barker to take the spot kick, Ash stepped up and confidently converted the penalty for 0 – 4.

Jacob Cane was picked out as he charged forwards into the box, before slotting comfortably past Butler to end a perfect day for the Seagulls, with spirits high amongst the fans and players alike come full-time.

Weston now head into their final game of the competitive season with the Somerset Cup Final against Taunton Town at Bridgwater Town on Friday night.
