Maidstone United v Weston-super-Mare AFC

Maidstone United 1 - 0 Weston-super-Mare AFC
23 Mar 2024 - 15:00Gallagher Stadium

In a low-key affair at the Gallagher Stadium, it was the hosts who came out on top with a 1-0 win.

Both Weston and Maidstone started the game on even footing and this was a theme that would ensue the following 90 minutes.

An interesting battle in the middle third left the game somewhat scrappy at times as both teams looked to force an opening goal.

Weston looked most threatening when utilising Jordan Bastin down the left wing but he saw multiple crosses turned away.

The second half started in a very similar fashion to the first as both teams continued to cancel each other out.

It was evident to see that this was a game between two very good sides who just couldn’t find a way through each other.

Rex Mannings had a couple of attempts, he saw however, both of those go over the bar and into the vocal Maidstone support behind the goal.

The deadlock was eventually broken on 71 minutes when a free kick was swung in from the right hand side and Reiss Greenidge was on hand at the back post to head home.

Weston continually pushed the Maidstone defence in search for an equaliser but on every occasion the Kent side were a match for whatever was thrown at time before hearing the final whistle.
