Metropolitan Police FC v Weston super Mare

Metropolitan Police FC 2 - 1 Weston super Mare
19 Oct 2019 - 15:00Imber Court Stadium

Met Police scored twice late on to take all three points in a 2-1 win over the Seagulls.

James Waite had a shot deflected wide early on after being fed into space by George Dowling, while Dowling dragged a shot wide of the target after the ball had been laid off to him by Isaac Pearce.

A Bilal Sayoud free-kick from 20 yards was deflected over the bar by the Weston wall, before Luke Purnell was forced into kicking the ball away from the resulting corner after Ross Murdoch powered a downward header at goal. Owen Howe forced Met Police debutant Rhys Forster into action after meeting a Dowling corner with his head, and Sayoud had a golden opportunity when in loads of space on the far side but Purnell was out sharply to smother the shot and see it roll behind for a corner.

Scott Laird fired a shot over from 25 yards after recieving the ball, and Howe slashed wide on his left foot from the edge of the area after Waite had won the ball back from the Met Police defence. Dan Martin then forced Forster into pushing his powerful drive from long range over the bar as Weston were looking like ending the half on top.

Weston got the opener in the second half when a Waite corner floated through the area, with Aaron Parsons recovering the ball on the far side. He laid it off to Mawford, whose delivery was met by Laird at the front post and he headed into the roof of the net.

Murdoch headed over the bar at the back post unmarked from a corner, while down the other end Waite drove just wide from 25 yards and Randall volleyed straight into Forster’s arms after McCootie’s cross was controlled by the winger on the edge of the area.

Met Police got an equaliser when a cross from Met substitute Oliver Knight crossed into the area, and Luke Robertson’s volley hit the post and hit the back of the net.

With a draw seeming most likely, Met Police got a winner with the last kick of the game when a corner into the box was touched in by Ness at the back post to give Met all three points.
