A wonder strike from home defender Jack Alexander and a Conor McDonagh goal midway into the second half saw the Seagulls lose 2-0 at North Leigh.
Luke Purnell held an early effort from Jordan Thomas 20 yards out, before Marlon Jackson glanced a Keiran Thomas cross wide at the front post down the opposite end. Sam Avey headed a Dayle Grubb free-kick wide, before Lloyd Humphries managed to pick out Reuben Reid in behind however North Leigh debutant Leon Morrison was able to recover and block the shot inside the box.
Humphries fired a free-kick from 18 yards over the bar, before a diving header by Keiran Thomas from substitute Jordan Bastin’s cross struck the outside of the post and bounced away. A low Bastin corner caused a scramble in the box, with Humphries lifting the loose ball over the bar from 12 yards. Jacob Jagger Cane then had a 25-yard effort heading towards the top corner, but Morrison was able to head behind for a corner with a vital intervention.
The hosts were to take the lead through a short corner routine, the ball being worked to Alexander. The centre-back took one touch to set himself 30 yards out before powering an effort past the diving Purnell into the top corner from long-range to make it 1-0.
Jordan Thomas was again causing Weston’s defence problems with his direct running as he cut inside and found Craig Hewitt on the left side of the area, but his effort was kept out by the foot of Purnell. Thomas then hit the side-netting for the hosts after driving into the area, before Humphries headed a Bastin corner over the bar from six yards in the final action of the half.
In the second period, Reid had an opportunity when racing onto another Humphries pass in behind but his shot across goal on the left foot was past the far post. Humphries had a shot from 25 yards held by Adam North in the North Leigh goal, before Bastin had a shot toward the front post narrowly miss the target as Weston looked to keep the pressure on their hosts.
The hosts were to grab a second goal midway through the second half when they managed to break down the right and Jordan Thomas managed to square a pass inside to McDonagh, who swept in first-time on his right foot to double the advantage.
