A good first 25 minutes was unable to help the Seagulls to a win over Oxford, as they fell to a 3 – 0 defeat away to Oxford City.
A low George Nurse free-kick from 20 yards was held by Craig King in the Oxford goal, and George Dowling’s effort from 25 yards after a Jennison Myrie-Williams layoff was again held on to by King.
Sam Nombe’s shot was pushed out for a corner by Luke Purnell after he broke into the box, and Kyran Wiltshire’s free-kick was held low by the Seagulls shot stopper.
Oxford took the lead half an hour in when Jacob Cane was caught in midfield by the Oxford midfield, and the home side drove forward. Reece Fleet was fed into the box, and he poked past Purnell and into the net to break the deadlock.
After the interval, Weston looked to create chances and one came when a loose ball rolled to Dowling’s feet, and the midfielder sliced his attempt wide from 25 yards.
Oxford doubled their lead when a cross came into the box, and Oxford captain Oastler rose highest to power a header into the corner of the net.
Oxford sealed the win when Purnell pushed a shot away, but the ball came to Kabongo Tshimanga and he slotted in from a tight angle with no Weston shirt around him to finish the scoring.
Oxford were reduced to ten men when Oastler dived in on late on Myrie-Williams and he was shown his marching orders.
