Salisbury v Weston-super-Mare

Salisbury 1 - 1 Weston-super-Mare
22 Apr 2023 - 15:00The Raymond McEnhill Stadium

A James Dodd header saw the Seagulls’ memorable league season end in a 1-1 draw at Salisbury.

The hosts were to take the lead just four minutes in when Luke Purnell looked to clear the ball upfield from a backpass, but striker Devon Arnold nipped in and stole the ball off of Purnell’s toe, the ball trickling over the line for 1-0.

Dayle Grubb had a 25-yard free-kick tipped round the post by Mark Smith, before Lloyd Humphries fired over the crossbar from 30 yards after winning the ball on halfway and driving forward. Jay Murray then had a 20-yard shot blocked by a Salisbury defender after Noah Coppin had laid the ball off to him.

Nat Williams fired wide of the far post after bringing a cross down 20 yards out, before Jacob Jagger Cane saw a left-footed shot from inside the area deflect wide of the far post when twisting inside the area. Arnold then had a strike from inside the area crash off of Purnell’s bar and over in the final action of the half.

Weston were to get the equaliser 19 minutes from the end when a Grubb corner was met by Dodd inside the area, and his glancing header across goal nestled in the far corner for 1-1.

Coppin had a strike pushed away by Smith after being found inside the box, before Thomas fired over at the back post after Grubb’s teasing free-kick was missed by everyone and found the right-back. The captain then had a shot deflect wide of the target from 20 yards when aiming for the back of Smith’s net.
