A Solomon Sambou brace defeated Weston in the Seagulls’ game in hand on their relegation rivals.
Khale Da Costa got an early chance to run at Alex Byrne, throwing in a few step-overs as he charged towards the area and cut onto his left but his low shot was comfortably into Luke Purnell’s arms.
Solomon Sambou had a shot from a corner blocked by Jake Lee as the ball came out to the midfielder, and Jennison Myrie-Williams had a 20-yard free-kick deflected behind for a corner.
Marlon Jackson headed a cross from George Nurse just wide of the target, and a minute later a free-kick from the left winger found a free Jake Lee eight yards out but he headed straight at Dean Snedker when he really should have scored.
Da Costa curled just over the bar after Zane Banton had escaped the attention of Matt Bower, back for a month loan from Cheltenham, and fed the winger into the area, and Sambou had a weak shot blocked by Tom Harrison before Da Costa dragged the rebound wide of the target.
Purnell was first tested minutes into the second half when Naby Diallo had the ball pinched from him in midfield, David Moyo drove at the backline and his 18-yard shot was stopped low down to Purnell’s right.
St Albans got their first of the evening when three home players pressed Bower when in possession, and he sloppily gave it away. The ball was worked to Sambou, who cut inside and bent his effort past Purnell from outside the area to break the deadlock.
Less than ten minutes later and St Albans had their second when some intricate passing around Weston’s area saw many fans applauding the neat footwork from the home side, and Sambou was the player on hand to fire in at Purnell’s near post for 2 – 0.
Lee had two attempts to try and get Weston back in the tie, first heading Aaron Parsons’ hanging cross wide at the back post and then seeing a swerving drive from 30 yards well watched by Snedker all the way and kept out easily by the stopper.
Weston had one last chance, but substitute Gethyn Hill’s one-on-one was kept out by Snedker’s feet after the forward had been fed by Lee.
