An 86th-minute winner from James Morton ensured that the Seagulls would be returning to North Somerset with all three points thanks to a fantastic strike.
Mitchell Weiss had the game’s first chance when latching onto a Weston mistake at the back and rounding Harry Lee, firing over from a tight angle after being forced wide by the covering Weston defenders. Lloyd Humphries hit over the bar from inside the area when Robbie Willmott’s corner was knocked clear to him, before the defender had another chance from Dayle Grubb’s set-piece, this time heading wide when escaping his marker.
Jacob Jagger Cane then put in a good block to get in the way of Ryan Blackman’s 25-yard shot, the ball spinning behind for a corner, while at the other end of the pitch, Humphries sliced wide first-time from 30 yards when a Willmott cross on the counter dropped nicely onto his right foot.
In the second period, Gio Rasulo fired over from 25 yards after escaping his marker before skipper Grubb had a low shot from the edge of the area held by Josh McNamara following a drive inside from Jordan Bastin. Willmott then fired wide from 25 yards after a neat Weston move worked the ball into him.
The best chance of the game so far fell to the feet of Rex Mannings just past the hour mark when he latched onto Jason Pope’s pass unmarked inside the area, his powerful drive on his right foot being kept out by McNamara which was then smothered at the second attempt. Substitute
Reuben Reid then headed a Willmott delivery over the bar when arriving late at the back post, before fellow substitute Alex Fletcher saw a shot inside the area pushed behind for a corner after spinning his man from a flick round the corner by Reid.
The Seagulls were to get a big goal not long before the end of the 90 when Grubb laid a pass off to Morton 25 yards from goal and shifting the ball out of his feet, his attempt dipped into the top corner for his second goal of the campaign.
In added-on time, St Albans came a lick of paint away from an equaliser when Rasulo’s cross from the right byline was met by Shaun Jeffers in the middle, and his header struck the crossbar with Humphries clearing the danger.
