Swindon Supermarine v Weston super Mare

Swindon Supermarine 3 - 2 Weston super Mare
30 Nov 2019 - 15:00Webbswood Stadium

Two penalties from Scott Laird wasn’t enough to stop Weston from falling 3-2 away to Swindon Supermarine.

Brandon Barnes curled an early free-kick into the side netting, before the hosts took the lead.

A ball over the top found Alex Henshall, who drove into the area and his shot was kept out by Luke Purnell. Swindon Supermarine striker Harry Williams was first to react, and he volleyed into the net from close range despite Dan Martin and Greg Tindle attempting to block.

Aaron Parsons headed just wide from an Isaac Pearce corner, and Henry Spalding’s shot from just outside the area curled wide of Purnell’s goal.
The hosts doubled their advantage when a corner from Henry Spalding found captain Matt Liddiard at the back post, and he headed the ball down and over the line for 2-0.

George Dowling went close when his shot from 25 yards took a deflection, forcing Martin Horsell to tip it onto the post and the keeper gratefully caught the ball as it rebounded back to him.

The hosts got a third when Williams got in down the left and his low cross to the back post found Henry Spalding, who slid in to convert the cross despite Martin’s best attempts to clear off the line.

As the Seagulls looked for a way back into the game, Horsell pulled off a great stop to push a curling effort from Barnes away as he took aim from outside the area.

After the interval, Weston got back into the game when Jacon Cane flicked the ball up onto Matt Coupe’s arm inside the area. Up stepped Scott Laird, and he confidently dispatched the penalty to make it 3-1.

Weston continued to come forward as a scuffed shot from Barnes was deflected into the arms of Horsell following a deflected Martin cross, Dowling fired a low shot straight at Horsell from 25 yards, Charlie Madden hooked an overhead kick wide from Dowling’s cross and Barnes curled wide from outside the area.

Into second half stoppage time, Weston were given a lifeline when substitute Ryan Jones was fouled by Coupe inside the area. Laird stepped up again, and scored again, however the late goal wasn’t enough for the Seagulls to take anything away from Swindon Supermarine.
