Torquay United v Weston-super-Mare AFC

Torquay United 3 - 3 Weston-super-Mare AFC
01 Apr 2024 - 15:00Plainmoor

Weston gained a point at Plainmoor after coming from behind twice to draw 3-3 in an Easter Monday clash.

Weston started brightly and could’ve easily seen themselves 1-0 up when Bailey Kempster had an effort from 10 yards out that was just cleared off the line at the last ditch.

Torquay then themselves flew out of the blocks and attacked the down right with good success. This was rewarded when the ball found its way to Stobbs who fired home for an early lead to the hosts.

The hosts were in dreamland just two minutes later when once again Torquay attacked down the right and this time the ball landed at Jude-Boyd’s feet who just like Stobbs fired home.

This fired the Seagulls into life, and backed by a fantastic travelling away end, who grew straight back into the game. Dodd, Bastin and Kempster all had good chances but none would find the back of the net.

The lifeline came through Bastin who picked the ball up wide left inside the Torquay box and drilled his effort low past the helpless keeper putting Weston straight back into the game at half-time.

Weston started the 2nd half in the same positive fashion that they took into the break and had the equaliser just 6 minutes in. The ball was driven in low from the right hand side and perfectly found Kempster who had little to do other than stab the ball home from 6 yards out for a well deserved equaliser.

Weston continued to dominate the ball and control possession in the middle of the park. Dodd had 2 efforts, one just wide and one just over as well as Lloyd Humphries going close.

Against the run of play, Jude-Boyd secured himself a brace as his distance effort someone squeezed past Harris in the Weston goal to restore the hosts’ lead. Weston had 7 minutes to try and get something out of the game.

Just 4 minutes later a moment of brilliance from Reuben Reid ensured the Seagulls wouldn’t leave Devon empty handed as he equalised from 18 yards out. He picked the ball up with his back to goal, turned and fired with a pinpoint finish into the bottom left hand corner.
