The Seagulls came away from their trip to Truro City with a 0-2 win in Cornwall to inflict Truro’s first home loss of the season.
Truro started off brightly in the opening ten minutes, the ball falling to Louis Rooney from a corner but his shot rattled off the crossbar and Weston managed to scramble clear.
Weston took the lead when Scott Laird bust forward and crossed into the box. A routine punch from Truro goalkeeper James Hamon, however, hit his own captain Jamie Richards and rolled into the back of the net under pressure from Nick McCootie to break the deadlock.
Isaac Pearce had a chance when he brought the ball down from a quick throw 18 yards out, but volleyed high and wide of the target. Down the other end, Will Dean was on the end of a quick Truro move but curled his shot wide from the edge of the area.
Weston had a go at playing some of their own, neat football to carve Truro open and grab a second, with it paying off. In a flowing move including at least 20 passes, the ball found Pearce who drove at the defence. His cheeky layoff into the path of McCootie was perfect, and the forward drilled into the corner via a deflection from the edge of the area.
Before half-time, Weston were on the hunt for more goals as Pearce cut inside from the wing and his curling attempt toward the top corner was pushed away by Hamon.
After half-time, Weston tried to continue where they left off with Jake Mawford’s pass down the left feeding Ben Whitehead. The striker beat Richards to the ball and drove past him, with the striker having his shot from an angle tipped aside at the near post by Hamon. The Truro keeper was again equal to Pearce, this time stretching to tip over a shot from the winger as he once again beat his man to drive inside.
Despite creating half-chances and looking to get in behind whenever possible, Weston’s defence held firm and saw out the win for their consecutive win on the road.
