Weston-super-Mare AFC v Farnborough

Weston-super-Mare AFC 0 - 3 Farnborough
26 Mar 2024 - 19:45The Optima Stadium

Two goals from Jordan Norville-Williams and a Jordan Haigh finish saw Weston lose to their visitors 3-0.

Ollie Pendlebury drove wide from 30 yards inside the opening two minutes, before Max Harris denied Millar Matthew-Lewis with an excellent stop from six yards following a long Guy Hollis throw. Harris then gathered a downward Hollis header from the resulting corner.

Pendlebury saw a 25-yard shot blocked by a Weston body on the half volley, before Joe Haigh rolled a shot from 18 yards into Harris’ arms following a Reggie Young break upfield. Rex Mannings had Weston’s first attempt from 18 yards deflected and held by Jack Turner folllowing a smart James Dodd backheel.

The visitors were to break the deadlock when a long Hollis throw fell in the direction of Pendlebury, whose half-volley was stopped by Harris. The ball fell in the direction of Haigh however, and he was able to control and finish into an open net for the opener.

Farnborough were to double their lead when an Ollie Robinson throw into the box resulted in a goalmouth scramble, the ball falling for Jordan Norville-Williams to sweep into the top corner on his left foot from six yards.

Lloyd Humphries saw a 30-yard drive tipped over by Turner following Mannings’ shot from a short corner being blocked, before skipper Dayle Grubb drove over the bar from 25 yards when finding space in the middle of the park.

In the second period, Haigh volleyed over from 25 yards following Hollis’ long throw being cleared in his direction, while down the other end Grubb saw a shot from 18 yards bounce over and force Turner to tip over after half-time substitute Bailey Kempster’s cross was headed clear in his direction. Grubb then saw another attempt from 25 yards curl narrowly past the far post, before Humphries drove wide from 30 yards after space opened up for him.

The visitors made it three when Norville-Williams was released down the left by Haigh, and he arrowed a shot past Harris from inside the area for his second of the game.

Grubb curled a free-kick over from 25 yards, before Humphries drove over from 30 yards out in frustration. Humphries then headed a Willmott free-kick wide at the back post. Grubb had the game’s final chance, but his 25-yard free-kick was held by Turner in the Farnborough net.
