Weston super Mare v Banwell

Weston super Mare 10 - 0 Banwell
08 Aug 2020 - 15:00The Optima Stadium (Behind Closed Doors)

Will Harvey scored a hat-trick inside the first 15 minutes of the game as Weston beat Banwell 10-0 in their first friendly at The Optima Stadium.

Harvey got on the scoresheet inside the first three minutes when he slotted in from a few yards out after Banwell keeper Jamie Fisher parried a Ryan Jones shot away, and then sliding in at the back post a few minutes later from a low Bailey Kempster cross.

R.Jones again went close with a similar effort to last night’s against Bridgwater Town, lining up a 25-yard shot and seeing his powerful effort crash back off the crossbar and away from any immediate danger.

Harvey got his treble on the 15-minute mark when R.Jones slipped him in behind the defence, the young winger staying composed in front of goal by rounding Fisher and slotting into an empty net.

Sam Hendy was next on the scoresheet when Harvey’s shot was blocked and fell into his path. The young midfielder took a touch to set himself before unleashing a powerful strike into the far corner of the net, leaving Fisher rooted to the spot.

R.Jones almost got himself on the scoresheet just after the drinks break, when his curling free-kick landed just wide of Banwell’s goal.

The young winger did get his goal when good interplay between Ben Griffith and Kempster allowed the latter to cross into the box. Jones was on hand to slot in the fifth goal of the afternoon for Weston.

Not long before half-time, Weston had two more chances to increase their lead. Ben Jones curled a free-kick wide of the post, before Harvey lifted over the top of the bar after latching onto a loose Banwell backpass.

It didn’t take long for Weston to continue where they left off in the second half, left-back B.Jones cutting inside past a few men onto his right inside the box before firing into the corner.

Griffith got his name on the scoresheet for seven when Banwell failed to deal with a deep B.Jones cross, before substitute Tommy Kendall rose at the back post to head in an R.Jones corner.

Kempster eventually got his goal when he drove at the Banwell defence and into the box, finding the far corner on his left foot for 9-0.

R.Jones had a penalty saved after a Banwell hand blocked a goalbound shot inside the area, before Kempster rattled the crossbar with a fierce volley a couple of minutes later.

Kempster netted the tenth when he worked his way in from the right wing, curling into the far corner with an excellent effort as the Banwell defence backed off him.
