In a close encounter, goals from Jordan Bastin and Marlon Jackson saw Weston draw 2-2 at home with Beaconsfield Town.
Reuben Reid was the first to go closest when Jordan Bastin worked a yard of space down the left, his low cross narrowly missing the No.19 on the stretch at the back post. Captain Dayle Grubb had a shot from 25 yards held by former Seagulls keeper Kie Plumley after working a yard of space, before Grubb fired over from 25 yards on his left foot after cutting inside from the left-hand side.
Scott Laird had a free-kick from the edge of the area strike the Beaconsfield wall, before a Kyel Reid free-kick skimmed off the head of Lewis Pegg and behind for a goal-kick in the visitors’ first chance of the game. Laird had an opportunity not long before the half-hour mark, his half-volley from 25 yards narrowly flashing over the top of Plumley’s goal. In the half’ s final attack, Grubb had a shot from inside the area deflect behind for a corner after working a smart 1-2 with Reid.
In the first attack of the second half, Dan Bradshaw diverted a shot just wide of the far post after meeting a low Kyel Reid cross 12 yards out, before Laird fired wide of the post from 25 yards with a low effort after bringing down a Beaconsfield clearance.
The Seagulls were to take the lead just past the hour when the hosts countered quickly from a Beaconsfield free-kick, Jackson getting the ball on the left. He managed to beat his man and square the ball across to Bastin, whose initial shot was kept out by Plumley but the winger reacted quickest to steer in from six yards out.
The visitors were to draw level with 20 mintes to go however when Rams skipper Toby Little swung an inch-perfect cross into the box, and No.9 Nathan Minhas got across his man at the front post to glance a header past Purnell and into the far corner.
As the Seagulls looked to get their noses back in front, Jacob Jagger Cane curled wide from outside the area before Laird flashed a powerful drive across goal and beyond the far post.
The visitors were to take the lead nine minutes before the end through a swift counter-attack. James Dodd was hauled down in the box for a Weston penalty appeal and while on the ground, he managed to spin and strike a shot against the base of the post. The Rams broke downfield with a long ball, and Minhas managed to get a yard of space inside the area before rolling his shot past Purnell.
Weston weren’t to lay down quietly though, and they were level four minutes later. Substitute Elis Watts drove in between three men to break into the box and his powerful drive struck the crossbar, bouncing down virtually on the line for Jackson to bundle in from a few yards out tor restore parity.
There was still to be action within added-on time, when Jackson drove forward and attempted to weave his way along the edge of the box. Tumbling to the floor under a challenge, the referee deemed it to be simulation and showed the striker his second yellow card, having earlier been booked in the second peiod.
