Weston super Mare v Beaconsfield Town

Weston super Mare 1 - 0 Beaconsfield Town
31 Aug 2019 - 15:00The Optima Stadium

A Nick McCootie strike moments before the hour mark saw the Seagulls continue their unbeaten run at the start of the league season.

Captain Greg Tindle went close early on, when an Isaac Pearce corner fell to him but he blazed over the bar. Charlie Losasso went close for Beaconsfield, but he couldn’t guide his volley from a deep Ryan Parsons cross on target. Pearce drove forward, but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked.

McCootie went close for the first time in the afternoon when Alex Byrne’s pass in behind was latched upon by the forward, and Myles Bowman tipped his shot just wide. An Aaron Parsons header from a Pearce corner skimmed the bar on the way over, and Shawnikki Clement-Peter had a shot saved by Niall Maher in the Weston goal following a loose Parsons pass.

Bowman gathered a McCootie shot comfortably after Mawford turned and played the pass in for the striker, before Jon-Jo Bates hit the bar for Beaconsfield on the counter after Connor Davies had been dispossessed. Bowman clawed a McCootie half-volley away after a corner had been scrambled away before being put back into the mix by Tom Llewellyn.

After the interval, Lossaso went close when he curled a shot from 18 yards onto the post before Tindle scrambled away. Beaconsfield continued to attack, and Clement-Peter went close again when his low effort from 12 yards was kicked away by Maher.

Weston did break the deadlock just before the hour when a Pearce corner was met by Tindle at the back post. His shot was cleared off the line, but McCootie was in the right place to hammer in from a few yards out to score the all-important goal.

The momentum began to swing in Weston’s favour, with Pearce having a shot tipped over by Bowman. Tindle nodded a Pearce corner wide, and Hendy dragged a shot wide from 18 yards following some neat linkup play by McCootie and Mawford.

Joel Randall went close when McCootie hared down the wing and played the ball across the face of goal, with Randall smacking the outside of the post with his attempt. Losasso drove a free-kick wide from 25 yards, and Luke Neville’s volley was wide of the target after a corner had dropped wide to him.
