Weston super Mare v Chippenham Town

Weston super Mare 0 - 1 Chippenham Town
23 Feb 2019 - 15:00Optima Stadium

A Nat Jarvis header in the second half saw the Seagulls lose 0-1 at home to Chippenham Town.

A Marlon Jackson shot from 25 yards arrowed wide of the target early on, and a Jarrad Welch shot from a half-cleared George Nurse cross was blocked by Chippenham defender Will Richards.

Chippenham had a great chance to break the deadlock when Nat Jarvis was played in by former Seagull Jack Compton, and the former Bath City striker’s one-on-one shot was saved by Luke Purnell. A Dean Evans shot, which dripped tremendously, was held low down by Purnell following a scuffed clearance by Tom Harrison.

Welch had a massive chance not long before half-time when Jacob Cane’s cross was deflected through to the midfielder, but his left-footed shot from yards out went over the bar. Alex Byrne dragged a right-footed shot wide from outside the area after beating a Chippenham defender.

Purnell was alert to push Nick McCootie’s shot wide of the post after it had taken a deflection off of Jason Pope, and Richards headed a Compton free-kick wide of the target just before half-time.

After the interval, Jarvis hooked an effort wide of Purnell’s target from an angle after Weston’s shot-stopper failed to claim Rhys Davis’ long free-kick, launched forward from halfway.

Just before the hour mark, Compton got on the ball down Chippenham’s right and his inswinging cross was a dangerous one. Unfortunately for the Seagulls, Jarvis beat Parsons to the ball and glanced home a header with Purnell rooted to give the Bluebirds the lead.

Jackson headed a Byrne corner wide, with the Weston No.9 again going close with his shot on the turn stinging the palms of Will Puddy as Weston tried to get back into the game and find an equaliser.

Jake Lee blazed wide from outside the area when Welch laid the ball off to him, and Weston’s last chance of an equaliser fell to Jennison Myrie-Williams, but he headed Nurse’s corner over the target.

FT: Weston 0 – 1 Chippenham (Jarvis 59)

Weston XI: Purnell, Pope, Nurse, Cane (C) (Phipps 72), Parsons, Harrison, Bray (Hill 62), Byrne, Jackson (Lee 77), Myrie-Williams, Welch. Unused substitutes: Lucas, Llewellyn.

MOTM: Jarrad Welch – Welch kept play ticking over when Weston attacked the Chippenham backline, linking the play between the midfield and the attack. Could have scored a crucial goal at 0 – 0 but was unable to hit the target.
