Weston-super-Mare succumbed to their fourth consecutive National League South defeat on Saturday, going down 1-2 losers to Eastbourne Borough at The Woodspring Stadium.
Dayle Grubb opened the scoring for the Seagulls midway through the first period, capitalising on a defensive slip, allowing the stand-in skipper to charge unmanned towards goal, before coolly slotting past former Weston ‘keeper Lewis Carey.
Without being particularly fluent, Ryan Northmore’s side comfortably negotiated the remainder of the first period to maintain the advantage going into the break.
The mood of the afternoon drastically shifted after the interval however, and the aforementioned control possessed by the hosts soon dissipated.
Elliott Romain rounded Luke Purnell on 54 minutes, finishing from the tightest of angles, to level the scores.
The killer blow was dealt 12 minutes later, when second half substitute Darren Lok firmly tucking home from 18 yards out after being slid in behind by Nathaniel Pinney.
Weston created a handful of openings to equalise, with Tristan Plummer and Scott Wilson passing up the best of them, but a leveller didn’t materialise, leaving Weston remain pointless at the foot of the table.
