Weston super Mare v Hayes & Yeading United

Weston super Mare 1 - 5 Hayes & Yeading United
25 Jan 2020 - 15:00The Optima Stadium

Weston were defeated 5-1 at home to Hayes & Yeading.

Scott Donnelly had an 18-yard volley deflected wide after Mike Symons hooked a Hayes corner clear, and Symons failed to steer a James Waite free-kick at goal with his head. Chris Knowles then went close with a diving header from a Waite corner.

Waite had an effort from the edge of the area spilled by Jack Smith, with Scott Laird’s follow-up cleared away as it headed towards the bottom corner. Donnelly then curled wide from 18 yards down the other end for Hayes.

Manny Duku drove wide for Hayes inside the area as Dan Martin forced him onto his right foot, and James Clark headed a Donnelly cross wide of Purnell’s goal.

Hayes took the lead when Francis Amartey was tripped by Knowles inside the area, and Donnelly made no mistake from the spot as he sent Purnell the wrong way to put his team ahead.

Purnell pushed a Donnelly shot from 18 yards round the post after a corner had been played short, before Hayes doubled their advantage.

A ball in behind released Duku, who kept his composure and rounded Purnell, steering a shot in past the sliding Tindle from a tight angle.
Amartey dragged a shot into Purnell’s arms after the interval as a Duku cross found him.

The Seagulls pulled one back when McCootie rose inside the area and nodded a Waite corner into the bottom corner, to spark some life back into the game.

Rowe made it three for Hayes when he slotted into an empty net after Clark had squared him the ball.

Amartey made sure of the win though, when his shot from 20 yards out took a deflection and flew into the corner of Purnell’s goal.

Weston were reduced to ten men when Tindle handballed inside his own half, and the Seagulls skipper was shown a second yellow.

Hayes made it five a couple of minutes from time when Rowe beat substitute Jack Goodall, and slotted in past the outstretched foot of Purnell.
