League Two side Newport County came out on top in a 4-0 win over the Seagulls as the pre-season campaign reaches the halfway point.
It took just four minutes for Newport to break the deadlock when a pass through released young striker Lewis Collins, and he was able to pick his spot one-on-one with Luke Purnell by firing in low off the right post for 1-0.
Dayle Grubb came close with a free-kick that flashed narrowly wide of Nick Townsend’s post from 18 yards, before Matty Dolan saw a free-kick from a similar angle curl safely into the hands of Purnell.
The visitors were to double their lead however when Aaron Lewis got space inside the area and squared the ball to Chanka Zimba after Purnell had rushed out, with the on-loan Cardiff City striker slotting into an empty net from six yards out.
As Newport looked to continue with their fast tempo, Lewys Twamley had a shot from inside the area kept out by Purnell.
Twamley was to be involved in the next bit of action though when he managed to get down the left-hand side and pick out Harrison Bright with an excellent cross at the back post, who volleyed into the roof of the net two minutes before half-time to make it 3-0.
In the second half, Newport continued to go on the hunt for more goals when a right-wing corner found Bright, whose flicked effort rebounded back off the base of the post and Weston could clear. Newport substitute Jack Karadogan then had an opportunity, but his effort flashed wide of the post. Seagulls substitute Elis Watts had a shot from 25 yards on his right foot that flew over the goal, while Lloyd Humphries headed narrowly wide after a Watts corner found him six yards out.
Newport put the gloss on a fine display though when Robbie Wilmott’s corner found Dolan at the front post, and he glanced home a header to make it 4-0 on the night.
