Weston Fly High to Beat Whitehawk.
Weston soared to victory against Whitehawk, with Brad Ash and Dayle Grubb scoring in what could be described as a ‘complete performance’ by the Seagulls.
The first half was dominated by Weston, seeing Ashley Kington, Lloyd Humphries and debutant Mohamed Chemlal control the match with fluid passing in the midfield. 18 minutes in saw Brad Ash beat his man, putting a cross into the box, finding Gethyn Hill, who’s effort narrowly went over the bar. Chances also came for Chemlal, Hill and Ash during the first half but despite being well on top, the Seagulls were unable to break the deadlock, with the teams going in at half time at 0 – 0.
The second half followed the same vein as the first, Weston’s midfield outclassed the opposition and created a plethora of chances for the attacking trio. The Seagull’s defence consistently kept the Hawks at bay, with new signing Ben Gerring slotting into the back four with ease and impressing throughout the game. Westons opening goal came in the 68th minute, Brad Ash reacted first to pounce on a loose ball after a deflected shot in the box and poked it past the keeper, leading to wild celebrations amongst the fantastic travelling supporters.
The second goal came shortly after, Dayle Grubb latched onto a poor Whitehawk pass on the edge of the box, burst past the defenders and slotted the ball past the keeper into the far corner, making the score 0 – 2 after 80 minutes. Substitutes Jacob Cane, Jake Lee and Jake Reid all impressed, creating chances and making a nuisance of themselves, showing the strength in depth Weston now have.
Overall it was a well-deserved victory for Weston, second half goals from Brad Ash and Dayle Grubb securing a very impressive 0 – 2 win on the Brighton coast.
