FLETCHER MOVES TO THE OPTIMA

Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to announce that striker Alex Fletcher has put pen to paper in BS24.

Alex will be best known for his spells with Tiverton Town and Bath City, scoring at a consistent rate for both sides across the last few years after coming through Plymouth Argyle’s academy.

Aside from making 24 appearances as a youngster with the Pilgrims, he has also spent time on loan with Torquay United and Aldershot Town.

On signing Alex, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

Alex is well known to us, he had a really good spell under Scotty (Rogers) at Tiverton previously.

“He can play in a number of attacking positions and has an eye for a goal.

“He also fits our profile, he’s quick, direct and can run all day”.

Alex said:

I’m very excited to start the next chapter of my career here at Weston.

“The gaffer outlined his ambitions for the club and his playing style and it fits perfectly with how I like to play the game.

“I’ve worked with Scotty before at Tiverton Town and have shared a dressing room over the years with a good chunk of the squad, so I feel at home already.

“I’m looking forward to making my debut in front of the home fans in the games over the coming weeks and making some memories in a Weston shirt.”

About Alex

Alex joined the Plymouth Argyle Academy in 2008, and began a two-year scholarship in 2015 as part of their under-18s side.

He made his debut in the 2016-2017 season and was named an unused substitute twice before signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2017. During the first half of the 2017-2018 season, he scored three goals in 10 games for the Pilgrims while being named an unused substitute ten times.

In January 2018, he joined National League side Torquay United on a 28-day loan, where he made three appearances for the Gulls.

Upon his return to Plymouth, he made a further 13 appearances and was named an unused substitute 13 times across the next 18 months.

His next regular taste of senior football came with a month’s loan to National League club Aldershot Town in September 2019, making six appearances while with the Shots.

In December 2019, he was on the move again when signing a one-month loan with Southern League Premier side Tiverton Town, which was later extended for an additional month and then again to the end of the season. During his 11-game spell with the Yellows, where he was managed by Scott Rogers, he netted eight goals and assisted four.

He was released by Plymouth in the summer of 2020, and he signed permanently for Tiverton Town in the Southern League Premier South, where he went on to score nine goals in 10 games and assist three.

In January 2021, he moved to Bath City for an undisclosed fee and during his time with the Romans, he scored 28 goals and assisted 10 in 72 games before departing them earlier this week.

We would like to welcome Alex to the club and wish him all the best when pulling on the Seagulls shirt.
