FOREST GREEN ROVERS MATCH PREVIEW
Weston welcome Mark Cooper’s Forest Green Rovers side to the Woodspring Stadium this Tuesday for their third pre-season friendly, following previous fixtures to Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle respectively.
After announcing the re-signing of midfielder Jake Mawford on Sunday afternoon, Weston fans will be hoping to see last seasons successful U18s coach take to the pitch once again as a permanent Weston player, after impressing so far in the trial period in training and the fixtures so far.
Seagulls head coach commented ahead of the friendly fixture, “I am looking forward to welcoming an old club of mine to the Woodspring. It is sure to be a tough game but another one I will learn lots from regarding the squad and how we wish to play for this season. We have added one to the squad and should have another two by the Cheltenham game. I’d like to thank the fans for their support so far and hope everyone enjoys the game.”
Forest Green currently have former Seagulls managerial duo Scott Bartlett and Chris Barker heading up their academy, whilst last season’s loanees, striker Jordan Morris (who made two appearances for Weston in the final two competitive games of last season) and winger Tommy Anderson have both signed their first professional deals with the newly promoted League Two club and are joined by Jamie Laird’s brother, Scott Laird, who has also joined to be closer to home.
