LAIRD PENS NEW CONTRACT
Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to announce that player-assistant manager Scott Laird has signed a new contract with the club.
The left-back put pen to paper on a long-term deal at the start of this month.
Lairdy joined the club in the summer of 2019 as Scott Bartlett’s first addition to the backroom staff, as well as being one of the new signings on the playing side across that off-season.
Since arriving at the club, Laird has made 106 appearances, scoring 30 goals and assisting 15.
Manager Scott Bartlett said:
It goes without saying that Lairdy has been a brilliant addition to our club and has been by my side for a long time.
“His support, professionalism and loyalty have allowed me to do my job to the best of my ability and like Chris Barker before him, I am very grateful for that.
“He has shared his role as assistant to me with that of a key senior player brilliantly and I admire him for that.
“We have defined our roles very well and I think that still allows him to play and train at an extremely high level.
“The other parts of his job, like many assistant managers, are not seen by others necessarily but are hugely important to myself and more importantly the players.
“I made it clear that we are going to do this well and do it together. I am delighted he has extended his contract and look forward to more years of good performances, great goals, bad jokes and lots of love songs on the coach.”
On signing the new contract, Laird said:
This was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made in football.
“The club have been amazing in a weird three and a bit years with the pandemic. The gaffer and I have built an amazing squad full of very talented players but most importantly good people.
“Thank you to all the Bliss family who are incredible in everything they do for this club, and thank you to the gaffer who has helped me learn about ‘the other side’ of football and allowing me to play some of the best and most enjoyable football of my career”
We are pleased that Scott has committed his future to the club. You can watch Scott and the rest of his teammates in action at The Optima in our next home game tomorrow vs Bognor Regis Town.
