POPE AND CANE LOOK SET TO LEAVE WESTON

It is becoming increasingly likely that popular players Jason Pope and Jacob Cane will find pastures new for the coming season.

The situation is explained here by manager Scott Bartlett:

As previously discussed, I would have liked to keep Jason and Jacob and have been in regular contact with them both.

“I have a good relationship with them both but it has become increasingly clear that they are hoping to play their football elsewhere next season, which has become a distraction.

“The reality is that both signed improved terms last season to include this coming season also. Unfortunately, following relegation, Jason and Jacob have decided they would like to leave the club in search of something new.

“I have spoken to both and made improved offers which have been politely rejected. For this reason, I have given them my blessing to look elsewhere because quite honestly we need to do the same now.

“I am very much of the mindset that to be successful this season we need every player to be desperate to play for the club and that was not the case here, unfortunately.

“Our recruitment has been brilliant so far, it’s been well thought out and specific.

“Myself and Lairdy will be working hard to finalise the squad over the next few days ready for the start of pre season

“We wish them well and thank them for a good contribution to the club, both have done well for WsM AFC and will remain friends of the club.

“As ever, we will keep you updated.”
