ROBBIE WILLMOTT SIGNS ON LOAN

Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to confirm that right winger Robbie Willmott joins on loan from Woking FC until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old can play in a variety of positions, mainly occupying the flanks or central midfield during a glittering career at the top of non-league and in the lower levels of the EFL.

Willmott is best known for his spells with Newport County, having gained goals and assists against Leicester City, Middlesbrough and Manchester City during the Exiles’ incredible run to the Emirates FA Cup fifth round during the 2018-2019 season, as well as facing Leeds United & Tottenham Hotspur a year before.

On signing Robbie, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

Robbie is a good signing for us, he has a lot of EFL experience, is a very good character and obviously has very good quality.

“We are delighted he has chosen WsM and our project for the next step in his career, and are looking forward to working with him.

About Robbie

Robbie signed for Cambridge United in the summer of 2006 after being spotted playing local football, and he turned out for Cambridge Regional College in the Eastern Counties Football League during the 2006-2007 season.

He made his senior debut for Cambridge’s first team in September 2007,and went on to be a part of the U’s side that lost the 2009 National League Premier playoff final to Torquay United. At Cambridge, he scored 20 goals in 121 games.

In January 2011, he joined National League Premier side Luton Town, going on to lose the 2011 and 2012 National League Premier playoff finals while being named in the 2010-2011 National League Premier Team of the Year. At Luton, he scored 15 goals and assisted 14 in 67 games while being an unused substitute three times.

In July 2012, he returned to Cambridge on a free transfer and scored two while assisting two in 21 games.

He signed for Newport County in January 2013 and scored 13 goals while assisting 17 in 92 games, helping the Exiles reach the Football League for the first time in 25 years with a playoff win against Wrexham in 2013.

Willmott then spent the 2015-2016 season with Ebbsfleet United along with loan spells at Eastleigh and Bishops Stortford, before going on to assist 30 times for Chelmsford City in the 2016-2017 season.

He returned to Newport in 2017 and was a part of Newport’s memorable FA Cup runs, before enjoying loan spells at Exeter City and Walsall

He joined Woking in the summer of 2023, being a regular feature from their bench during the early months of the campaign.
