SEAGULLS SEASON OPENER AGAINST POOLE TOWN – MATCH PREVIEW
Marc McGregor gets his first taste of league football as Weston manager, with the visit of Dorset-based Poole Town to the Woodspring Stadium this Saturday (5th August).
On paper Weston had a mixed pre-season, but where it seemed some results didn’t go their way the Seagulls were playing against teams who play full time, and performances throughout all six games were promising ones, culminating with a 1 – 3 win last Saturday, away to Salisbury City, topping the friendlies off nicely. The recent additions of Jake Mawford, Jarrad Welch, Tristan Plummer, Aden Baldwin and Ashley Harper during pre-season will give Seagulls fans plenty of hope.
Poole reached the playoffs last term, but were denied entry due to ground irregularities. Tom Killick’s side will be determined to prove that last season was certainly no fluke, and with arguably the leagues most stubborn defence, Weston will be tasked with breaking them down.
Last time these sides met, Poole won 2 – 0 at home, courtesy of goals from Marvin Brooks and Luke Burbridge. Their last meeting at the Woodspring Stadium came last August, four games into the season, where the game ended in a 0-0 draw, ending Weston’s 100% record.
