SEAGULLS SET TO HOST NEWPORT COUNTY

EFL League Two side Newport County will visit the Optima Stadium on Monday 22nd July for a pre-season friendly, with a 7:00pm kickoff.

This means our friendly with Swansea City u23s, which was due to be played on Saturday 20th July, has been cancelled.

Director and Club Secretary Richard Sloane said:

“We have been trying to arrange a pre-season friendly with our friends at Newport County for some time and have had two or three dates pencilled in the diary.

“It is great news to have agreed on a date.

“Obviously, we would have preferred a Saturday but this match will give our new squad a good test and comes just 3 weeks before we kick off a new season.”

Last season, Newport made it to the League Two Playoffs final by finishing 7th following a late surge of form however, lost 1-0 to Tranmere Rovers in the 29th minute of extra-time.

We will reveal the full pre-season fixture list in due course, which is still subject to change.

We look forward to welcoming Newport next month.
