SEAGULLS TAKE ON HIGH-FLYERS POOLE
Tonight, Weston will take on newly promoted Poole Town at the Woodspring Stadium in a bid to keep their excellent form going and to try and pull themselves away from league favourites Ebbsfleet.
After Saturday’s 2-0 win at recently relegated Welling United, the Seagulls now sit top of the National League South table with a maximum 9 points from their first 3 games, the only team in the National League South to have a 100% record so far this season.
However, Poole Town currently sit 7th in the league, with 2 wins out of the first 3 games and will want to add to their tally. Poole began their National League South adventure with a 4-0 loss to Ebbsfleet on the opening day, but have managed to claim scalps, both 1-0 wins, against Bishops Stortford and Maidenhead United.
Tonight’s meeting will be the first time these two teams have met in the last 21 years. The two last met in the 1995-1996 season, where Weston triumphed over Poole with wins of 7-0 and 8-1. Poole went down that season with only 1 point.
When asked about tonight’s encounter, Head Coach Ryan Northmore responded with “A good performance at Welling needs to be followed up with another strong performance at home. I’m pleased with the start and we are taking things a step at a time and hope to continue in good form. Poole Town have also enjoyed a good start and will be tough opponents. We need to be at our best”.
Tonight’s Available Squad: Barnes, Dowling, Fortune, Grubb, Ingram, Kington, Mawford, McClennan, McCoulsky, Meechan, Mullings, Pope, Powell, Purnell. Richards, Simpson, Williams.
