Seagulls vs The Saints – Bank Holiday Monday

Weston are set for another tough test tomorrow, (29th August) when they welcome Saint Albans City to The Woodspring Stadium for a highly anticipated clash.

After Saturday’s disappointing defeat to Margate, the Seagulls side will be aiming to get themselves back to winning ways after their last win came away to Welling United on the 13th of August, a full 16 days ago.

Meanwhile, The Saints are currenlty sat in 3rd position in the league and will be aiming to deliver another blow to Weston which would make it 3 defeats in the last 9 days

Last season, Weston faced Saint Albans three times, losing two and winning one. Weston’s losses came in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round and the league, both as 2-1 defeats. Weston’s win over The Saints last season came as a 4-1 result at The Woodspring, with the game being recognised as former striker Brad Ash’s first senior hat-trick.

Speaking about Saturday’s loss to Margate, Ryan Northmore responded, “We let ourselves down. It was not good enough. We opened up some good positions with the ball early in the game but lacked the quality to capitalise. Then we decided to neglect our defensive duties and it cost us two first-half goals. I changed things in the second half and we opened them up only to fire the ball across the six-yard box time and time again with too many ball watching instead of anticipating. On Monday, we need to bring it back to basics.”

On the players, Ryan added “The players need to follow the process instead of jumping ahead of themselves. I expect more from them because I believe they are capable of more. It’s time to deliver”.

Monday’s squad: Barnes, Dowling, Fortune, Grubb, Kington, Mawford, McClennan, McCoulsky, Meechan, Mullings, Pope, Purnell, Simpson, Richards, Williams, Wring.
