SOMERSET CUP ADVENTURE BEGINS ON TUESDAY NIGHT
Weston-super-Mare AFC will be looking to getting on their way to taking their turn as Somerset’s top non league football team when they take on Shepton Mallet at The Woodspring Stadium on Tuesday night in the 1st Round of the Somerset Premier Cup.
The Seagulls have lost their last 9 games and this game arrives at the perfect time to stop that run going into double figures, with any potential managers potentially observing the proceedings at The Woodspring on Tuesday night.
Shepton are currently 9th in the Toolstation Premier Divison with 11 points from their first 10 league games. Of their last 7 games, Shepton have lost 6 before delivering a battering to Sherbourne Town last Tuesday with a 10-1 win at home.
Seagulls caretaker manager Jon Haile on the squad “There will be a few changes to utilise the squad, but the team will be a strong one and we will be looking to win with a good performance. We will respect Shepton Mallet but I want the players to show why they are Conference South players and convince both myself and the incoming new coach why they should be in the squad.”
With respect to Saturday’s performance Jon Haile added, “I was pleased with our aspects of the game on Saturday but we have to take our chances when they come. We also need to be a little bit more street wise. They (Maidenhead) were falling for fouls at every opportunity and getting them. I couldn’t fault our application and we are not far away.
“The Somerset Cup is something that I want to win and with competition for places fierce in the squad I expect a professional performance”.
