SYMONS DEPARTS THE OPTIMA

Weston-super-Mare AFC can confirm that Mike Symons has completed a permanent move to Evesham United.

The experienced striker joined the club on New Year’s Eve 2019, and memorably scored the 94th minute winner on his debut a day later at home to Truro City in a 3-2 victory.

On Mike’s departure, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

Symo has quite simply been brilliant to work with, I didn’t want to let him go but appreciate where he is in his career and his desire to play a bigger role within a team.

“He’s been great for us, especially in that first season. His partnership with Brad Ash and James Waite kickstarted us into a run that I think would have seen us into the Playoffs.

“The last two seasons have robbed him of some games as he comes towards the end of his brilliant career and I wasn’t going to stand in his way of regular football at Evesham.

“Of course we wish him well.”

On his time at The Optima, Mike said:

It’s been a pleasure to play for Weston-super-Mare AFC.

“Thank you to everyone involved at the club.

“Good luck for the rest of the season.”

We wish Mike all the best for the future and thank him for his contributions in a Weston shirt.
