TAUNTON COME TO TOWN FOR CUP FINAL
Tomorrow evening, The Seagulls welcome league rivals Taunton Town to The Optima Stadium as both sides aim to lift the 2019 Somerset Premier Cup.
The Seagulls go into their first competitive game of the new season with a new-look squad compared to the one which helped reach the final. Six players remain from last seasons squad, five of which helped contribute to the run to the final. To reach the final, The Seagulls got past Hengrove Athletic 0-4, beat Chard Town 4-2 and made their way past Paulton Rovers with a 2-1 victory.
Taunton made their way to a final with a 1-2 win over Wincanton Town, a 1-0 win over Welton Rovers and a 1-2 win over Frome Town. The Peacocks come into the game with a similar squad to last season but have recruited smartly, bringing in winger Jamie Short, striker Josh Grant, goalkeeper James Sleaman-Keane and attacking midfielder Jack Rice as well as former Seagulls Jamie Price and Naby Diallo.
Last time these two sides met was back in November 2017, again in the Somerset Premier Cup. A young Taunton side kept Weston out in the first half before half-time substitute Jason Pope broke the deadlock with a shot from inside the box. Albanian Irnti Rapai slotted in a one-on-one, with Jarrad Welch converting from a Pope cross to make it 0-3 which saw Weston safely through to the quarter-finals.
Kick-off is at The Optima Stadium on Tuesday 30th July, 7:45pm. Ticket prices for the game are as follows: £8 Adults, £5 Concessions, £2 U16’s, U8’s go free and a Family Ticket costs £15.
