TAYLOR JONES SIGNS ON LOAN
Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to announce that centre-back Taylor Jones joins on a six-month loan from Cardiff City.
The 19-year-old is primarily a centre-back but can also be deployed at right-back and is comfortable on the right side of a back three, showing his versatility which will be key to Scott Bartlett’s side during the first part of the season.
On signing Taylor, Manager Scott Bartlett said:
We have targeted Taylor for a while now and we are delighted he’s with us.
“Darren Purse is a mutual friend of mine and Chris Barker’s, and has really helped us with this one.
“We have had some really good loans from Cardiff in my time in Rollin Menayese, Dan Martin, Lloyd Humphries and James Waite, and Taylor is another solid character who jumped at the chance to come in with us.
“I’ve dragged my son to Hereford, Chippenham and Cardiff to watch Taylor three times this pre-season and we like what we saw, he is aggressive and a good defender.
“He is good in possession, versatile and has also captained Wales at U19 level, he will be a good fit for us.
“I’d like to thank the board also for supporting this loan”.
Taylor said:
First of all, I’m delighted to be here.
“I’ve already met the manager and all the lads so that’s been great and I’ve settled in quite quickly.
“I’ve trained a few times now and I see that there’s a strong group of which are willing to work hard for one another.
“I’m really looking forward to showing the fans and everyone at the club what I can bring to the table.
“I’ve seen that they had a great end to last season so hopefully we can build on a strong start to the season this year and push to get up that table.
“I’ll be giving 100% for the club and be ready whenever I’m needed for sure”.
About Taylor
Taylor has been a part of the Cardiff City Academy since the age of seven, progressing through the ranks to sign a scholarship contract in the summer of 2019.
Spending the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons with the Bluebirds’ Under-18 sides, he appeared sporadically for the Under-23s in the latter season before signing a professional contract in the summer of 2021.
He transitioned into Under-23s football properly during the 2021-2022 season as he began to make a name for himself under experienced coach Darren Purse, and now gets his first taste of senior football with the Seagulls after being involved with Cardiff’s first team during pre-season.
The youngster has also been capped seven times at youth international times for Wales, making appearances for the Red Dragons at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, which included captaining the Wales Under-18 side against England.
We are delighted to welcome Taylor to the club and wish him good luck when pulling on the Weston shirt.
