Weston are back at home under the Optima Stadium floodlights as they take on Beaconsfield Town this Tuesday, 7th March. The Southern League Premier South fixture kicks off at 7:45pm.
The Seagulls will be looking to make it three league wins in a row after Saturday’s extremely hard-fought 1-0 victory at Hanwell Town. Scott Laird displayed nerves of steel to dispatch his 70th minute penalty to secure the win in West London.
Another side who picked up three points on the road on Saturday were Beaconsfield Town. The Rams made the long journey to Tiverton and triumphed by two goals to one. Kyel Reid, a former team-mate of Laird’s at Preston North End, opened the scoring for Beaconsfield before a bizarre-sounding own goal from Tiverton’s Josh Jones, in what was new managerial duo Jon Underwood and Neil Baker’s first game in charge of the Buckinghamshire side.
The former Slough Town pair took over from Gary Meakin recently. Meakin had personally announced his plans to step down at the end of the season, but Beaconsfield then announced a few days later that Meakin and the club had parted company.
Beaconsfield will make the journey west again in confident mood, particularly as The Rams are one of only three sides to defeat The Seagulls in the league this season. Back in November at Holloways Park, the home side triumphed by a goal to nil after Elliott Buchanan’s second-half winner. The Rams were also well marshalled by goalkeeper Ravan Constable that day.
Former Seagulls loanee Kie Plumley deputised for the now-departed Constable at Tiverton and may well face some of his former team-mates, in what promises to be an intriguing encounter this Tuesday.
