THE SEAGULLS VISIT THE ANGELS IN FIRST AWAYDAY
Weston are on the road for the first time in the Vanarama National League South this season as they head to Tonbridge Angels this Saturday, 12th August. The game in Kent kicks off at 3pm.
The Seagulls will be looking to continue with their winning start to the 2023/24 campaign after last Saturday’s 1-0 home victory over Havant & Waterlooville, while Tonbridge will be looking for their first points of the season after their 1-0 loss at Worthing.
It was early joy for Weston after Marlon Jackson scored the very first goal of the entire National League season after opening his account for the campaign after a mere 32 seconds. Tonbridge, on the other hand, were subjected to late despair as Worthing’s winning goal was scored in the last minute down on the South Coast.
Kodi Lyons-Foster was sent off for the Angels after two bookable offences, meaning he will be suspended for the visit of Weston.
Jay Saunders is the Tonbridge manager and his side had a good season in National League South in 2022/23, finishing ninth in the table, just four points off the promotion play-offs.
This is the first time since 2013/14 that Weston and Tonbridge have faced each other. It was a victory apiece as Weston won 2-1 at the Woodspring Stadium thanks to goals from Tristan Plummer and a last-minute Ash Kington penalty, while Tonbridge won 1-0 at the Longmead Stadium after a last-minute winner of their own from Alex Teniola.
One notable change from that last fixture is the installation of a 3G pitch at the Longmead Stadium, the sort of surface that Weston will play on fairly often in the National League South this season.
