Weston head to Devon to take on Torquay United this Easter Bank Holiday Monday, April 1st. The Vanarama National League South clash kicks off at 3pm.

The Seagulls will be looking to complete an Easter double following Good Friday’s 4-0 home win over Taunton Town, in what proved to be a fantastic all-round display from Scott Bartlett’s side, as Weston scored twice without reply in each half.

Bailey Kempster, with his first league goal, and Reuben Reid scored before the interval with sublime finishes, before man-of-the-match Jordan Bastin scored an exquisite third goal with the outside of his foot. Keiran Thomas then thumped in another of his trademark thunderbolts to rubberstamp the victory. .

Thomas’ goal against Taunton was not at all dissimilar to his wonderful winning goal against Torquay earlier in the season. In a thrilling game under the Optima lights back in October, The Seagulls beat The Gulls by three goals to two. Former United striker Reid opened the scoring for Weston, before Torquay equalised. But Weston, roared on by the highest ever attendance for a league game at the Optima Stadium, added another through Reid’s second-half penalty, before Thomas’ decisive strike crashed into the back of the net on a memorable evening.

Weston’s previous encounter with Torquay is also one that Seagulls’ fans remember extremely fondly, as Weston caused a major upset by winning 2-1 at Plainmoor back in March 2019 after goals from Gethyn Hill and the incredible run and finish from Alex Bray. At the end of the season, Torquay went on to win promotion, while Weston were relegated to highlight the surprising nature of that result.

As for this season, The Devon outfit are experiencing well-documented problems off the field and were recently docked ten points after entering administration. That penalty has pushed Torquay down to 19th in the table, just four points above the relegation zone. On Good Friday they lost 3-0 at Yeovil Town in front of well over 6,000 fans, a National League South record attendance.

Based on previous meetings between the sides, another excellent game down on the English Riviera can be expected. A big crowd is expected at Plainmoor, and a high turnout from the Seagull Army is also likely with many Weston fans making a weekend of it down in Devon.
